Character background and lore

Yoichi Isagi is the main character in Blue Lock. At the age of 16, this young striker joins the Blue Lock project with the ambition of becoming the centre-forward capable of leading Japan to victory in the World Cup. His entry into the programme follows a decisive match during which he chose to play a pass rather than take a shot at goal himself – a decision he deeply regrets.

At the start of the programme, Isagi struggles to identify the skill that might set him apart from other strikers. He gradually develops an excellent sense of space and the game, an ability to anticipate goal-scoring opportunities, and an effective direct shot. His ability to analyse his opponents and teammates, and then continually adapt his own style of play, becomes one of the key features of his development within Blue Lock.
