Origin and character background
In the spiritual world of the Bleach manga and anime, Ichigo Kurosaki is a high school student from the town of Karakura who can see ghosts. His life is turned upside down the day he accidentally absorbs the powers of the Shinigami Rukia Kuchiki in order to protect his family from a monster. Having become a substitute Shinigami (Soul Reaper), he takes on the heavy responsibility of purifying the Hollows — corrupted and malevolent souls — and guiding wandering spirits to the Soul Society. The figurine depicts his formidable signature technique, the Getsuga Tensho (Moon Fang Piercing the Heavens). By concentrating his dense spiritual energy at the tip of his imposing black Zanpakuto named Zangetsu, Ichigo releases it in the form of a highly destructive, razor-sharp shockwave, capable of defeating the most powerful enemies in the spirit world.
