Character origin and backstory (Lore)
First appearing in May 1939 in issue 27 of Detective Comics, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, Batman — the alter ego of billionaire Bruce Wayne — has become one of the most powerful iconic figures in the history of global popular culture. Scarred for life by the tragic murder of his parents before his very eyes in a dark alleyway in Gotham City, Bruce devoted his life, his fortune and his intellect to training in martial arts and the science of criminology to become the ultimate vigilante of the shadows. Without any divine superpowers, the detective fights organised crime and a rogues’ gallery of psychotic supervillains using cutting-edge technological gadgets and his sheer mental strength.
