Inspired by the Disney and Pixar film Vice-Versa 2 (Inside Out 2), this Deluxe 1/10 Art Scale figurine from Iron Studios brings together Joy and Anxiety in a diorama dedicated to Riley’s Mind. Standing approximately 26 cm tall, the piece brings together two emotions with radically different temperaments, with Joy’s boundless optimism contrasting with Anxiety’s nervous, constantly anticipatory energy.
The scene recreates several iconic elements of the Mind, the control centre located within Riley’s mind. The base features the control console, memories in the form of coloured spheres arranged at the front, as well as references to the Islands of Personality visible in the background scenery. Joy is depicted with her luminous yellow skin, blue hair and distinctive dress, whilst Anxiety is shown in her orange silhouette, with a tense posture and a constantly alert demeanour.
The composition makes full use of the Deluxe format, with a base far more elaborate than that of a classic Art Scale figurine and a genuine scene that connects the two characters to the film’s setting. The proportions, expressions and numerous set elements serve to visually convey their contrast: Joy seeks above all to preserve Riley’s happiness, whilst Anxiety attempts to prepare her for every possible negative scenario.

In Inside Out 2, Riley Andersen is now a teenager. Her Mind, previously run by Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, must suddenly welcome new emotions linked to the upheavals of adolescence: Anxiety, Envy, Boredom and Embarrassment, as well as Nostalgia. Their arrival coincides in particular with changes in Riley’s personality and her entry into a phase where social relationships and her perception of herself become more complex.
Joy remains driven by her long-standing goal: to preserve Riley’s happiness. Optimistic, energetic and convinced that a difficulty can always lead to something positive, she seeks in this second film to protect the sense of self that Riley has built up. However, the arrival of the new emotions disrupts her usual way of functioning and calls into question her desire to control what the teenager feels.
Anxiety, on the other hand, is focused on the future. Pixar portrays her as an emotion brimming with energy who seeks to prepare Riley for every possible negative outcome. She plans, anticipates and imagines the worst-case scenarios in order to prevent Riley from making mistakes or being rejected by her future classmates. Her intention is protective, but her need to foresee everything ultimately comes into direct conflict with Joy’s approach.
The Joy & Anxiety Deluxe figurine perfectly embodies this central conflict in Inside Out 2. By bringing the two emotions together around the control panel in the Mind, Iron Studios recreates one of the film’s main themes: the clash between the desire to preserve present happiness and the urge to anticipate an uncertain future – two mechanisms that work together to shape Riley’s development.
