Character background and universe (Lore)
In the Star Wars expanded universe, and more specifically in the hit series The Mandalorian, Grogu (long nicknamed ‘The Child’ or ‘Baby Yoda’ by the public) is a mysterious being belonging to the same unknown species as the great Master Yoda. Having survived the terrible purge of the Jedi Temple during Order 66, he spends years in hiding before becoming the prime target of a remnant of the Galactic Empire, led by the sinister Moff Gideon, who covets his Midi-chlorian-rich blood.
Initially taken in by the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, Grogu develops a powerful and unbreakable bond with his Beskar-armoured protector. Despite his infant appearance and playful nature, he possesses an innate and surprising mastery of the Force, which he uses to heal his allies, erect energy barriers or hurl his enemies into the air. His destiny, straddling the paths of the Jedi and the Mandalorians, makes him one of the most endearing and iconic figures in modern Star Wars mythology.
