Origin and background of the series (Lore)
In the hit Disney Channel series Shake It Up (broadcast between 2010 and 2013), Rocky Blue (played by Zendaya) is an intelligent, studious Chicago teenager with a deep passion for dance. Alongside her eccentric best friend CeCe Jones, she fulfils her fondest dream by being selected to become a background dancer on the hit local TV show 'Shake It Up, Chicago'. Balanced, responsible and often the duo's voice of reason, Rocky must constantly juggle the rigours of her school requirements and the competitive pressures of the TV studios, while learning to assert herself in the spotlight to become an accomplished star.
