Olaf is the famous magical snowman from *Frozen*, a feature film by Walt Disney Animation Studios released in 2013. He accompanies Anna and Kristoff on their journey to find Elsa after her powers have plunged the kingdom of Arendelle into a perpetual winter. Disney portrays him as a funny and endearing character, driven by a constant curiosity about the world around him.
Olaf has his origins in Anna and Elsa’s childhood, when they once built a snowman together and named him Olaf. When Elsa’s powers later bring Olaf to life, he retains an innocent, optimistic and extremely affectionate personality. One of his best-known traits is his paradoxical love of summer and warmth, even though he is made entirely of snow. Disney continues to portray him as a particularly curious, brave and loyal character.
In Frozen 2, Olaf once again accompanies Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Sven as they leave Arendelle to discover the origin of Elsa’s powers. His character evolves alongside him: whilst still as enthusiastic as ever, he becomes more inquisitive about change, knowledge and how the world works – a facet that makes the portrayal of Olaf immersed in a book particularly consistent with the character.
The little Snowgie visible beside him also belongs to the Frozen universe. These tiny snowmen appear notably alongside the characters in spin-off products from the franchise and are now listed by Disney as official characters within this universe.
This POP! No. 1802 therefore highlights a calm and curious side to Olaf: seated behind his book and accompanied by a little Snowgie, he is depicted far removed from the grand adventure scenes, in a composition entirely devoted to the pleasure of reading.
