Character background and lore
In the dark and revolutionary storyline of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Madoka Kaname is a shy, kind and ordinary 14-year-old schoolgirl from the town of Mitakihara. Her life is turned upside down the day she crosses paths with Kyubey, a mysterious creature who offers to grant her any wish in exchange for her becoming a Puella Magi – a magical warrior destined to fight terrifying entities known as Witches. As she witnesses the tragic cost and desperate fate that befall her classmates, Madoka hesitates for a long time, protected by the enigmatic Homura Akemi, who travels through time to rewrite her story. Endowed with extraordinary magical potential and boundless compassion, Madoka’s final choice will transcend the laws of the universe: she will make a wish to eradicate all Witches before they are even born, sacrificing herself to become the divine concept of the ‘Law of Cycles ’ (Ultimate Madoka), thereby freeing all the Magical Girls from their eternal curse.
