Narrative context and universe (Lore)
In theOne Piece universe, Monkey D. Garp is a Vice Admiral of the Navy and a major historical figure, known worldwide as the ‘Hero of the Navy’. He earned this reputation following the God Valley incident, where he allied himself with Gol D. Roger to defeat the Rocks Pirates. Garp is also related to the World Government’s main opponents, being the father of the Revolutionary Army leader Monkey D. Dragon and the grandfather of the pirate Monkey D. Luffy.
TheBattle Record Collectionrange captures fighters in the midst of the most notable battles in their history. Garp is characterised by his repeated refusal of promotions to the rank of Admiral in order to retain his freedom of action. In combat, he possesses no powers derived from a Devil Fruit, but he stands out through his extraordinary raw physical strength and advanced mastery of Haki (the fluid), allowing him to unleash devastating attacks with his bare hands, such as his signature cannonball techniques or his punches infused with Royal Haki.
