This Pyramid International magnetic bookmark, officially licensed by One Piece, features Monkey D. Luffy and his Gear 4 transformation. The design plays directly on the concept of transformation by featuring two different illustrations depending on which side you look at: Luffy in his normal form on one side and his Gear 4 Boundman form on the other. Compact and lightweight, it attaches to a page using two magnetic surfaces.
One side depicts Luffy in an energetic fighting pose, wearing a black outfit adorned with orange patterns, along with his traditional blue shorts and yellow belt. The One Piece logo appears at the bottom, complementing a background of luminous blue and white lines that accentuate the sense of movement.
The other side reveals Luffy after activating Gear 4 Boundman. His considerably more muscular physique, his arms strengthened by Armament Haki, and the characteristic white swirls surrounding his silhouette make this transformation instantly recognisable. Origin and character background (Lore)
Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and continues his journey with the ambition of becoming the Pirate King. His body possesses elastic properties that allow him to gradually develop various techniques known as ‘Gears’, each of which alters the way he utilises his physical abilities.
Gear 4 makes its first major appearance during the clash between Luffy and Don Quixote Doflamingo in Dressrosa. Faced with an opponent capable of withstanding his usual attacks, Luffy reveals this technique as one of his key assets. The anime dedicates episode 726 to it, entitled ‘Gear 4! The Incredible Boundman!’.
To assume the Boundman form, Luffy significantly inflates his musculature and combines his body’s elasticity with Armament Haki. His torso and limbs become much larger, whilst large areas of his body are covered in Haki. This combination gives him a significant increase in power whilst retaining the elasticity required for his techniques.
Boundman is also characterised by unusual mobility: Luffy constantly bounces about and can retract his limbs before propelling them forward with considerable force. Gear 4 subsequently becomes one of his recurring transformations and is adapted into various forms suited to specific fighting styles. The ‘Gear 4 Transformation’ concept featured on this bookmark captures precisely the visual contrast between Luffy before activating this technique and his spectacular appearance once transformed.
