Origin and background of the character
Buggy the Clown is one of the most recurring, opportunistic and hilarious characters in the One Piece pirate saga, created by manga artist Eiichiro Oda. A former ship’s boy on the ship of the Pirate King Gol D. Roger alongside Shanks the Red, he became the leader of his own faction after acquiring the powers of the Fragment Devil Fruit (Bara Bara no Mi). This fruit allows him to detach different parts of his body and make them levitate independently, rendering him completely immune to slashing attacks. Against all odds and following a series of epic misunderstandings, Buggy rose through the ranks of infamy to become a Grand Corsair, then one of the Four Emperors of the New World at the head of the Cross Guild.
