This Banpresto figurine depicts Kisame Hoshigaki, a member of Akatsuki and former member of the Seven Mist Swordsmen, as part of the Noir Edge Collection dedicated to Naruto Shippuden. Standing approximately 24 cm tall, it reflects the distinctive artistic style of this range, based on a predominantly monochrome design with a few touches of colour added to highlight the character’s most iconic features.
Kisame is depicted standing in an imposing pose, clad in the famous Akatsuki cloak. His distinctive features are carefully reproduced: a face with shark-like features, characteristic small eyes, textured skin and rows of sharp teeth visible in his expression. The character’s massive silhouette contrasts with the deliberately understated pose adopted by the Noir Edge Collection, which prioritises sculpting and visual presence over a complex battle scene.
Behind him appears Samehada, the immense living sword that accompanies Kisame. The weapon is depicted wrapped in its bandages, as it is often shown in the series prior to battle. Its considerable size further emphasises Kisame’s imposing stature and serves as a reminder of his exceptional physical strength. The official Naruto website specifically highlights Samehada as the character’s iconic weapon, capable of feeding on chakra.

Character background and lore
Kisame Hoshigaki is a ninja from Kirigakure, the Hidden Village of the Mist. Before joining Akatsuki, he was a member of the famous Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, a group of fighters specialising in the use of particularly powerful weapons. His physical strength, immense reserves of chakra and mastery of Suiton quickly made him one of the most dangerous opponents ever faced by the ninjas of Konoha. The official Naruto website explicitly describes him as a former member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist.
Within Akatsuki, Kisame forms a duo with Itachi Uchiha. The pair appear notably in Konoha whilst seeking to capture Naruto Uzumaki, the host of the Kyûbi. This partnership is characterised by a stark contrast between Itachi’s calm and calculating nature and Kisame’s more brutal personality, whilst making them one of the organisation’s most powerful duos.
Kisame’s weapon, Samehada, is an essential part of his abilities. This gigantic living sword can absorb the chakra of his opponents and possesses a will of its own. Kisame is able to wield this massive weapon with impressive ease, and his immense reserve of chakra sometimes leads him to be compared to a tailed beast without a tail. Samehada also plays a central role in his most recent battles, notably when he hides inside the sword to spy on Killer Bee and Naruto.
Kisame also has a particular rivalry with Gaï Maito, whom he faces on several occasions. Their final confrontation takes place after Kisame is discovered on Turtle Island. Faced with Kisame’s powerful Suiton techniques, Gai opens the seventh of the Eight Gates and manages to defeat him with the Southern Tiger. Kisame then chooses to die rather than risk revealing the secrets of Akatsuki, an act that leads Gai himself to acknowledge his determination as a shinobi.
