Character background and lore
A former elite veteran of the US Army, Frank Castle’s life is turned upside down forever on the day his family is cold-bloodedly executed during a shootout linked to a government criminal conspiracy. Consumed by grief and a destructive rage, he rejects the conventional justice system to wage his own war on crime. He then adopts the codename ‘The Punisher’, a relentless and heavily armed vigilante who mercilessly hunts down criminals, mafia members and all those who corrupt society.
In the Marvel Television series, the character explores the complex psychology of a broken man, haunted by his war traumas and his personal quest for vengeance. Alone against the world, using urban guerrilla tactics and raw firepower, the Punisher constantly finds himself at a crossroads. As he attempts to come to terms with his past, new and unexpected threats continually loom on the horizon, forcing him to remain the dark and dangerous warrior he has become.
