Discover Spider-Man in one of his most unconventional online appearances with this POP! Premium figure No. 1660 produced by Funko. This edition transforms the famous image of Spider-Man sitting behind a desk into a complete collectable scene. The figure stands approximately 8.4 cm tall and comes complete with his desk and various accessories.
Spider-Man appears behind a brown desk, with only his head and hands protruding from the desktop. His red and black mask with large white eyes captures the hero’s classic look, whilst a black telephone and documents on the desk complete the scene. The POP! Premium format thus allows the iconic scene to be recreated in context, rather than simply offering a standard figurine of the character.
Spider-Man is the heroic alter ego of Peter Parker, a young scientific prodigy whose life is turned upside down after he is bitten by a radioactive spider. He subsequently develops superhuman strength, agility and reflexes, the ability to cling to surfaces, and a ‘spider-sense’ that warns him of danger. Peter also designs his own web-shooters, which he uses to get around New York and fight crime.
After initially using his abilities for personal gain, Peter lets a criminal escape, who is later responsible for the death of his Uncle Ben. This event leads him to realise that his powers entail a responsibility towards others and shapes his career as a superhero for good.
Figurine No. 1660, however, refers to a very specific incarnation of Spider-Man: the American animated series launched in 1967. The shot showing Spider-Man near a desk is taken from the episode ‘Electro the Human Lightning Bolt’, broadcast on 16 September 1967. Several decades later, stills from this sequence were repurposed as humorous images and became one of the many memes associated with the 1960s animated Spider-Man.
Funko draws on this internet culture here with a three-dimensional recreation of the ‘Spider-Man Desk / Like A Boss’, combining the hero, his desk and the black telephone in a single POP! Premium figure.
