Origin and backstory of the character (Lore)

Doctor Doom, whose real name is Victor Von Doom, is one of the Fantastic Four’s long-standing enemies. He made his debut in the Marvel Universe in *Fantastic Four* No. 5 in 1962. From this very first appearance, he clashed with Reed Richards and his team, marking the beginning of a rivalry that would become one of the longest-running in the history of Marvel comics.

Victor Von Doom stands out for his combination of abilities rarely found in a single character. Marvel portrays him as one of the brightest minds in its universe, but also as a master of the mystical arts. His metallic armour incorporates extremely advanced technology, whilst his knowledge of sorcery enables him to take on both scientists and practitioners of magic.

Doom is also the ruler of Latveria, a fictional European nation which he governs with an iron fist. His immense pride and his conviction that he alone is capable of imposing true order upon the world regularly fuel his plans for world domination. His rivalry with Reed Richards stems as much from their intellectual competition as from Doom’s refusal to admit that Mister Fantastic might be his superior.

The slogan ‘Master of Mankind’, chosen for the sweatshirt’s design, therefore fits the character’s personality particularly well. More than just an adversary of the Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom sees himself as a leader, a genius and a man destined to exercise authority over others.
