Origin and backstory of the character (Lore)

Lupin III is the protagonist of the series created by the mangaka Monkey Punch in the late 1960s. Presented as the grandson of the famous gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, he is himself a genius thief, specialising in impossible heists and daring schemes.

Always accompanied by his most loyal allies, notably Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa XIII and Fujiko Mine, Lupin travels the world in search of treasures, rare objects and challenges worthy of his talent.

He is constantly pursued by Inspector Koichi Zenigata, an Interpol officer determined to arrest him despite the thief’s countless escapes. This rivalry is one of the franchise’s most recurring and humorous elements.

With its blend of action, adventure, comedy and heist films, Lupin the 3rd has become a major work of Japanese animation. Its hero – charismatic, unpredictable and always elegant – remains to this day one of the genre’s most iconic characters.
