SPIRITED AWAY - Hopping Lantern - Diorama 36cm

SPIRITED AWAY – Jumping Lantern – Diorama – 36 cm

Rediscover one of the most original creatures from Spirited Away with this superb diorama dedicated to the bouncing lantern. Inspired by the scene where Chihiro is guided to Zeniba’s house, this decorative piece captures all the poetry and strangeness of the world imagined by Hayao Miyazaki.

Standing at approximately 36 cm tall, this diorama makes a particularly striking display piece. Its slender silhouette faithfully recreates the appearance of this living lantern, capable of moving by hopping on a single leg whilst lighting the way in the darkness.

Crafted from polyester resin, the piece boasts a sturdy and detailed finish, making it ideal for display in a showcase or on a shelf. Its design makes it a particularly original decorative item for Studio Ghibli enthusiasts, as well as an excellent addition to a collection dedicated to Spirited Away.

This lantern depicts a character less commonly featured than the film’s main characters, allowing you to add to your collection a creature directly associated with the mysterious and magical atmosphere of Chihiro’s world.

Character background and universe (Lore)

The hopping lantern appears in Spirited Away during Chihiro and No-Face’s journey to the home of Zeniba, Yubaba’s twin sister.

Upon their arrival in this setting – which is far calmer than Yubaba’s bathhouse – a strange, living lantern comes to meet them. Standing on a single leg, it hops along in front of them to light the way and guide them to Zeniba’s house.

Although its appearance is relatively brief, this creature perfectly encapsulates the film’s visual identity: an everyday object can suddenly come to life and become a spirit in its own right, without this seeming out of the ordinary in this supernatural world.

The scene also marks a significant turning point in the narrative. After the hustle and bustle of the bathhouses, Chihiro discovers a more peaceful, warm and almost rural setting at Zeniba’s house. The lantern thus symbolically acts as a guide between two atmospheres, leading the heroine towards a calmer and more introspective stage of her adventure.

This diorama showcases this unassuming yet memorable creature, particularly prized for its minimalist design, its distinctive movement and its role as a guide in one of the film’s most soothing sequences.
