Origin and character background (Lore)

Jack Skellington is the central character in The Nightmare Before Christmas, a stop-motion animated film conceived by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick. Nicknamed the Pumpkin King, Jack is the iconic figure of Halloween Town, a world entirely devoted to the preparation and celebration of Halloween.

Tired of repeating the same festivities year after year, Jack accidentally discovers Christmas Town and becomes fascinated by Christmas. He then decides to organise his own version of the festival, with results that are as spectacular as they are chaotic. His skeletal appearance, his black-and-white striped costume and his broad smile have become some of the most recognisable symbols of the film’s universe.
