KIRBY - Kirby - Figure Amicot Petit 5cm

KIRBY – Kirby – Amicot Petit figurine, 5 cm

Banpresto / Bandai Spirits is bringing Kirby back into the spotlight with the Amicot Petit collection, a range of small figurines whose design mimics the look of a crocheted character. Standing approximately 5 cm tall, this version depicts the pink hero in his classic form, sitting with his red feet and accompanied by a small ball attached to his figure.

Despite its appearance, which is reminiscent of a soft toy or an amigurumi, it is in fact a rigid PVC figurine. The entire surface is sculpted with a texture that replicates the stitches of a knitted or crocheted piece, whilst the eyes, cheeks, mouth and different colours are incorporated into the figurine’s finish. The Amicot Petit range had previously released figures of Kirby, Waddle Dee and a sleeping version of Kirby based on this same aesthetic.

Character background and universe (Lore)

Kirby is the little pink hero from the eponymous video game series developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. He lives on the planet Pop Star, where he protects Dream Land, amongst other things. Nintendo describes him as a small character but one with a remarkable ability to absorb his opponents and regularly set off on adventures to save his world.

One of Kirby’s most distinctive traits is his suction power. He can swallow certain enemies and then acquire their special abilities, giving rise to the famous Copy Abilities. Throughout the games, these abilities allow him, for example, to wield a sword, breathe fire, use ice, wield a hammer or perform various ranged attacks.

The Amicot Petit figurine does not depict a specific transformation: on the contrary, it features the classic Kirby, with his round pink body, little arms, red feet and smiling expression. The originality here lies in the surface finish, which mimics a crocheted character, translating his very simple, rounded design into the aesthetic of a small amigurumi whilst retaining a construction made entirely of PVC.
