The lid features an elegant copper-pink finish and is adorned with several illustrations of Jiji and Lily, accompanied by little kittens, above the inscription ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’. The lower section contrasts with a white finish decorated with small gold motifs, giving the whole piece a look that is both soft and retro.
Measuring approximately 5.5 × 8 × 3 cm, this box is ideal for storing jewellery, pins, small stationery items, accessories or other small objects. Its compact design also means it can easily be slipped into a bag or displayed as a small decorative item in a Studio Ghibli collection.
Kiki’s Delivery Service is an animated film by Hayao Miyazaki, produced by Studio Ghibli and released in Japan in 1989. Adapted from the novel by Eiko Kadono, it tells the story of Kiki’s apprenticeship: a young witch who must leave her family in accordance with tradition and set out on her own to a new town to develop her abilities. She embarks on this journey accompanied by Jiji, her faithful black cat with a sarcastic streak.
After arriving in a coastal town, Kiki uses her ability to fly on a broomstick to set up her own delivery service. Jiji accompanies her on her new adventures and, amongst other things, meets Lily, a white cat with whom he forms a bond. This relationship is iconic enough to feature in official merchandise and even on the film’s soundtrack, which includes a track entitled ‘Lily and Jiji’.
This little Benelic box highlights precisely this softer side of the film’s world, bringing together Jiji, Lily and their feline counterparts in a design inspired by Kiki’s delivery service.
