Character background and lore
Inspired by the classic Disney animated feature film released in 1997, Calliope is one of the five divine Muses who recount tales and have a specific purpose: to sing the praises of the gods and guide the viewer through the history of Ancient Greece. Tired of the overly austere narratives of classical Greek tragedy, she breathes modernity and rhythm into the telling of Hercules’ life story. She positions herself as the leader of her group, bringing a gospel-inspired musical style to celebrate the young hero’s exploits. This role as a dynamic narrator proves indispensable in setting the pace for the demigod’s journey of initiation, illustrating his transformation from a clumsy young mortal into a true legend of Olympus who thwarts the machinations of the realm of the dead.
