Remus Lupin is one of the four Marauders, alongside James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew. All were sorted into Gryffindor House during their time at Hogwarts. Remus stood out as the most level-headed member of the group and also became a prefect. His life, however, was marked by his lycanthropy, which forced him to transform into a werewolf on nights when there was a full moon.
In order to be able to stay with their friend during his transformations, James, Sirius and Peter secretly learnt to become undeclared Animagi. It is this ability that gives rise to the four friends’ nicknames: Remus becomes Moony, whilst Peter is Wormtail, Sirius Padfoot and James Prongs. Their numerous escapades throughout the castle and its surroundings enable them to know the secret passages of Hogwarts with exceptional precision.
This knowledge of the castle leads the four friends to create the Marauder’s Map, a magical parchment capable of revealing a detailed map of Hogwarts and tracking the movements of its occupants. In particular, the map uses the Homunculus Charm and can identify a person even when they are wearing an Invisibility Cloak, under the influence of Polyjuice Potion or in their Animagus form.
Many years later, Remus returns to Hogwarts as a Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and becomes one of Harry Potter’s most important mentors. In particular, he teaches Harry how to produce a corporeal Patronus to defend himself against the Dementors. Remus also joins the Order of the Phoenix in the fight against Lord Voldemort.
This POP! Movies No. 224 thus chooses to return to the character’s origins, emphasising his identity as a Werewolf, his membership of the Marauders and his role in creating one of the most famous magical objects in the series.
