Origin and world of the character (Lore)
In the world of Holly Black's literary saga The Cruel Prince, Jude Duarte is a seventeen-year-old human girl brought up in the magical and ruthless world of Terrefaé (Elfhame) after her parents were murdered by Madoc, the Supreme General of the Supreme Court. Constantly scorned, abused and humiliated by the Air Folk because of her mortal condition, Jude refuses to submit and chooses to learn the art of the sword, strategy and espionage in order to survive. Her destiny changes when she becomes embroiled in the conspiracies of the crown and finds herself linked to Prince Cardan, the cruel and arrogant youngest son of the Supreme King.
