Taken from the world of Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken / Ken the Survivor), this Banpresto figurine depicts Rei, master of the formidable martial art Nanto Suichō Ken and one of Kenshiro’s most memorable allies. Part of the Grandista range, it stands approximately 27 cm tall – a scale that captures the fighter’s slender silhouette and characteristic stance, making for a striking display piece.
Rei is depicted standing in a fighting stance, with his legs spread wide apart to stabilise his position. One of his arms is stretched forward whilst the other is raised close to his face, hand open, directly evoking his fighting style based on rapid, sharp movements. His serious expression and long, dark hair reinforce the character’s determined demeanour.
The sculpture recreates his recognisable outfit, featuring a dark blue sleeveless jumpsuit, a wide brown belt, high black boots, and shoulder and knee pads. The grey shoulder pads are accented with gold trim and blue detailing, whilst the various folds and contours of the outfit emphasise his athletic build.

Rei is the successor to Nanto Suichō Ken, literally the art of the ‘Nanto Water Bird Fist’. He is one of the fighters associated with the Nanto Rokuseiken, the Six Sacred Fists of Nanto. His style favours extremely rapid attacks capable of slicing through his opponents, giving his movements an appearance that is both elegant and deadly. The official Hokuto no Ken website lists his techniques as including the Dankō Sōsai Ken, the Hien Ryūbu and the Hishō Hakurei.
When Rei first appears in the story, he is travelling the world in search of his younger sister Airi, who was abducted several years earlier by Jagi. His quest leads him to meet Kenshiro. After finally finding Airi, Rei gradually abandons his solitary quest and becomes one of Kenshiro’s most loyal allies.
Rei also develops deep feelings for Mamiya, a warrior who protects his village. When Raoh’s forces attack the village, Rei confronts the formidable heir to Hokuto Shinken head-on. Raoh then strikes him with a technique that leaves him with only three days to live. Rather than succumbing to despair, Rei decides to use the time he has left to protect Mamiya and free her from the traumatic events linked to her past.
His final great battle is thus against Yuda, master of another branch of Nanto and a figure directly linked to Mamiya’s past. Despite his condition, Rei manages to defeat his opponent before spending his final moments surrounded by Kenshiro and his companions. This tragic conclusion makes him one of the most memorable characters in *Fist of the North Star*, embodying martial elegance, loyalty, sacrifice and a sense of honour.
This Grandista figurine specifically chooses to depict Rei as a fighter still in full command of his abilities: his upright posture, open guard and slender silhouette emphasise the precision and fluidity associated with Nanto Suichō Ken.
