This Pyramid International magnetic bookmark, officially licensed by Dragon Ball Z, is dedicated to Son Goku and his transformation into a Super Saiyan. Named ‘Power Up’, it uses both sides to depict the hero before and after his transformation, creating a visual effect that is particularly well-suited to the theme of increasing power.
The front side depicts Goku in his normal form, with his spiky black hair and his iconic orange dōgi worn over a dark blue top. The Dragon Ball Z logo appears at the bottom, whilst a rocky landscape and a blue sky form the background. This illustration serves as the starting point for the ‘Power Up’ concept.

Character background and lore
Son Goku is the main hero of Dragon Ball. A Saiyan originally from the planet Vegeta who was sent to Earth as a child, he grew up far from his people and developed a personality deeply focused on pushing himself to the limit and mastering the martial arts. Throughout his adventures, he faces ever more powerful opponents and gradually discovers his true origins.
The Super Saiyan is one of the most iconic transformations in Dragon Ball Z. Goku achieves this form during the battle against Frieza on the planet Namek, following a moment of extreme rage triggered by Krillin’s death. His black hair then turns golden and his power level increases considerably, enabling him to continue his battle against Frieza in this new form. The official Dragon Ball website identifies this battle on Namek as one of Goku’s most iconic appearances as a Super Saiyan.
This transformation subsequently becomes a major element of the saga. Goku gradually learns to better master the Super Saiyan state and uses it in numerous battles, whilst other Saiyans in turn develop this ability. New evolutions also emerge later on, but the first Super Saiyan form remains one of the most instantly recognisable images in *Dragon Ball Z*.
The ‘Power Up’ design of this bookmark capitalises precisely on this visual change: one side shows Goku with his black hair in his normal state, whilst the other shows him with the golden hair characteristic of the Super Saiyan.
