Origin and world of the character
The character of Freezer (Frieza) is the most emblematic and visceral antagonist in the manga and animation saga Dragon Ball Z, created by mangaka Akira Toriyama. Leader of a huge space empire specialising in planet trading, this sadistic, polite and utterly cruel tyrant is directly responsible for the destruction of planet Vegeta and the near extinction of the Saiyan race. His titanic confrontation with Son Goku on planet Namek remains a historic event in shōnen history. It was during this legendary duel, pushed to the limit against Freezer's final form, that Goku awakened for the very first time to the mythical status of Super Saiyan, making this tyrant the indispensable catalyst for pop culture's most famous transformation.
