The Ichibansho collection from Banpresto / Bandai Spirits traces the various stages of Son Goku’s journey with the series *The Chronicle of Goku*. This figurine, measuring approximately 11 cm, harks back to the origins of *Dragon Ball* by depicting Goku as a child, still sporting his monkey tail and ready for battle. Despite its compact size, the figure is part of the MASTERLISE range, renowned for its detailed work on the characters’ poses, clothing and expressions.
Son Goku strikes a low, dynamic fighting stance, with his legs bent at the knees and his body leaning slightly forwards. One open hand is stretched out in front of him whilst the other is drawn back, giving the impression that he is ready to pounce. His focused expression contrasts with his young age and recalls the many training sessions and battles that punctuate his early adventures.
The figurine features his spiky black hair, his purple gi, a white belt tied around his waist and red wristbands. His black shoes and, above all, his brown monkey tail, curled behind his body, complete this characteristic appearance of Goku from the early days of the series. The figure as a whole is an instantly recognisable representation of the young fighter before the transformations and developments that would mark later periods of the saga.
Thanks to its size of approximately 11 cm, this figurine can easily be displayed in a showcase dedicated to the early adventures of Dragon Ball. In particular, it forms a cohesive set with ‘Bulma: The Chronicle of Goku’ and the ‘Great Ape Son Goku SOFVICS’, other items from the same collection dedicated to the early days of the story.

Son Goku appears at the start of Dragon Ball as a young boy living alone in the mountains. Raised by the martial arts master Son Gohan, whom he regards as his grandfather, he already possesses extraordinary physical strength but knows very little of the outside world due to his isolated upbringing. The official Dragon Ball website describes him at this stage as a naive child with a monkey’s tail and exceptional power.
His daily life changes when he meets Bulma, who has come in search of the four-star Dragon Ball that he keeps safely as a memento of his grandfather. Bulma has detected the sphere using her Dragon Radar and wishes to gather all seven Dragon Balls. Goku eventually agrees to accompany her as her bodyguard, thus setting off on the journey that marks the starting point of the entire saga.
During this first adventure, Goku gradually discovers the outside world and meets characters who will become central to his story, notably Oolong, Yamcha, Puar and Master Roshi. His curiosity, his natural passion for fighting and his constant desire to become stronger develop through these encounters.
His monkey tail, clearly visible on this figurine, is also one of the first clues to the character’s extraordinary origins. When he gazes at the full moon, the young Goku can transform into a Great Ape / Oozaru, a gigantic ape endowed with immense power. At this stage in the story, neither Goku nor his companions yet realise that this ability is linked to his true Saiyan heritage.
This ‘The Chronicle of Goku’ figurine thus represents the true starting point of his journey: a young fighter still unaware of his origins, but already possessing the strength, determination and enthusiasm for martial arts that will define his entire development.
