Character background and lore
Released in cinemas in 2021 by Pixar Studios, Luca is a magnificent animated film that celebrates friendship, self-acceptance and coming of age. The story is set in the splendid fictional coastal town of Portorosso, on the Italian Riviera. It follows Luca Paguro, a shy and obedient young boy who turns out to be, in reality, a sea creature living beneath the ocean. His life changes dramatically when he meets Alberto Scorfano, another, more intrepid sea creature who reveals an extraordinary secret to him: as soon as they step out of the water and their skin dries, they instantly transform into perfect human beings.
Together, the two friends venture onto dry land to experience an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and dreams of scooter rides, whilst concealing their true nature from the inhabitants of Portorosso, who fear sea monsters. This figurine captures Luca’s authentic appearance in his natural underwater habitat, with his large, curious eyes and amphibian fins, evoking the visual poetry and tenderness of this summer journey at the heart of the Pixar universe.
