Meet Monokuma, Danganronpa’s instantly recognisable yet unsettling mascot, with this collectable figurine from Banpresto’s Grandista range. Standing approximately 16 cm tall, it depicts the two-coloured bear in a seated position, with his paws tucked up close to his face, as if he were preparing another mischievous announcement.
The sculpture faithfully recreates his appearance, divided into two contrasting halves. The white side displays a simple, almost innocent face, marked by a slightly rosy cheek, whilst the black side features his angular red eye and menacing broad grin. This visual duality perfectly encapsulates the contrast between his mascot-like appearance and his cruel personality.
Monokuma is seated on the floor, legs apart and arms folded in front of him. His round belly, his navel stitched in the shape of a cross and his contrasting ears complete this iconic silhouette. The Grandista format particularly highlights the character’s generous proportions and the sharpness of its black-and-white detailing.
Monokuma is the robotic bear who runs the murder games in the Danganronpa series. Beneath his appearance as a school mascot, he imposes a particularly cruel rule on the students locked inside the school: to escape, one of them must murder a classmate without being identified during the class trial.
His white half evokes a reassuring mascot, whilst his black half reflects his penchant for chaos, manipulation and despair. Provocative, theatrical and unpredictable, Monokuma regularly intervenes to announce new rules, push the participants to their limits and turn every investigation into a psychological showdown.
