Origin and background of the character
Created by manga artist Yukinobu Tatsu, Dandadan is a high-octane shōnen series that brilliantly blends esoteric action, extraterrestrial phenomena and offbeat humour. The plot thickens when Ken Takakura, a shy high school student with a passion for UFOs nicknamed Okarun, is cursed by Turbo Granny, a yokai of terrifying speed. This curse grants him the involuntary ability to transform into an all-powerful entity resembling a melancholic demon. In his transformed state, Okarun sports long white hair, sharp teeth and phenomenal agility, although he is constantly overwhelmed by a deep emotional depression linked to the nature of the spectre.
