Origin and background of the character
Created by manga artist Yukinobu Tatsu, Dandadan is a high-octane shōnen series that brilliantly blends esoteric action, extraterrestrial phenomena and offbeat humour. The plot begins when Momo Ayase, a feisty high school girl raised by her medium grandmother, comes to the defence of a shy classmate named Okarun. Initially believing that ghosts do not exist and that only aliens are real (whilst Okarun believes the opposite), Momo is abducted by aliens from the planet Serpo. It is during this traumatic event that her own latent psychic powers awaken, granting her the ability to see the auras of spirits and to manipulate giant hands of kinetic energy to grab and hurl her targets.
