Origin and background of the character
Released in cinemas in 1995 and produced by Steven Spielberg, *Casper* is a groundbreaking film adaptation that combined live-action footage with 3D animation – a first for its time. The story follows Kathleen ‘Kat’ Harvey, a teenager who moves in with her father, the parapsychologist James Harvey, to the mysterious Whipstaff Manor at the request of its malevolent landlady to exorcise the spirits there. There, Kat meets Casper, an adorable, lonely and friendly little ghost who is desperately seeking a friend – a far cry from the terrifying behaviour of his three mad uncles (Grumpy, Dirty and Puffy). This commemorative figurine, released to mark the film’s 30th anniversary, perfectly captures the nostalgia and innocence of this magical adventure, making it ideal for adding a delightfully retro touch or a Halloween atmosphere to your display cabinet.
