Discover Gambit in his dark incarnation as Death with this Funko POP! Marvel No. 1614 figurine, inspired by X-Men ’97. This version depicts Remy LeBeau following his return under the influence of Apocalypse, transformed into one of his Horsemen. Standing approximately 12.4 cm tall, the figurine bears the Funko reference number 92651.
Death Gambit takes on a radically different appearance from the mutant usually dressed in brown and purple. His face takes on a dark grey hue, his eyes turn entirely red and his hair is now white. A long strand of hair covers part of his face, emphasising the unsettling nature of this transformation. He also wears a black and midnight-blue outfit consisting of boots, armour and a long coat.
In his hand, Gambit holds a card surrounded by purple energy, a direct reference to his mutant power which allows him to charge objects with kinetic energy before causing them to explode. The prop thus retains one of the character’s most iconic features, despite his change in appearance and his role as a Horseman of the Apocalypse.

Character background and universe (Lore)
Remy LeBeau, alias Gambit, is a mutant capable of charging objects with kinetic energy to make them explode. He mainly uses playing cards as projectiles and also wields a staff in close combat. Behind his charming demeanour and his past as a thief, Gambit gradually becomes a loyal member of the X-Men and develops a particularly significant relationship with Rogue.
In the first series of X-Men ’97, Gambit is caught up in the tragic events on Genosha. When the Sentinels attack the mutant nation, he sacrifices himself to destroy one of the machines responsible for the massacre, allowing Rogue and other survivors to escape. His death is one of the season’s major events.
However, the season’s post-credits scene hints at his return: Apocalypse finds one of Gambit’s playing cards amongst the ruins of Genosha. The second series then confirms that Remy has been brought back to life as Death, one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. This transformation alters his appearance and turns him into a direct adversary of his former companions.
During the final events of Season 2, Apocalypse uses Gambit as his primary instrument and eventually takes direct control of his body. Rogue, however, refuses to give up on Remy. Having gained celestial power, she manages to confront this incarnation and free Gambit from Apocalypse’s grip, ultimately allowing Remy to regain his identity.
This POP! No. 1614 therefore accurately depicts the period during which Gambit becomes Death: white hair, darkened skin, red eyes and a dark costume visually convey the hero’s transformation into a Horseman of the Apocalypse.
