Description
Discover Exhaust with this transformable figure from Hasbro’s Transformers Retro G1 collection. Standing approximately 13.2 cm tall in robot mode, this edition combines a modern, articulated figure with packaging directly inspired by Generation 1 toys. Hasbro officially refers to

Exhaust retains his racing robot visual identity, which is directly linked to the character’s origins and his historical association with Wheeljack’s design. He transforms from robot mode into a racing car in 18 steps, allowing him to change from an articulated humanoid figure into a compact sports car.

In robot mode, the head, arms and legs are articulated to allow for various poses. The figure comes with a retro-style shoulder launcher, which can be attached to either the robot or the vehicle. This choice of accessory is reminiscent of the shoulder-mounted weapons associated with previous incarnations of Exhaust and Wheeljack.

The set is presented in retro-style packaging inspired by Generation 1. Like the other items in this collection, the box includes a Tech Specs card to cut out and keep, so you can compare the character’s statistics with those of the other Transformers in the range. Hasbro describes this new incarnation of Exhaust as an extremely intelligent Decepticon whose loyalty lies first and foremost with himself.

Character background and universe (Lore)

Exhaust’s backstory has rather unusual origins, as it dates back to Takara’s Diaclone range, which predates Transformers. The toy that would become Wheeljack existed at the time in several colour schemes inspired by Lancia Stratos racing cars. One of these variants, in white, red and black, became famous amongst collectors under the nickname ‘Marlboor Wheeljack’.

This design originally had neither its own identity nor any real personality. Takara Tomy finally transformed it into an official character in 2015 with the Masterpiece MP-23 Exhaust, a new version of the Wheeljack mould featuring a different head and affiliated with the Decepticons.

In the backstory created for this incarnation, Exhaust is a specialist in industrial espionage. He infiltrates alien corporations to steal economic intelligence, advanced technologies and other valuable data on behalf of the interplanetary organisation Marlboor Dynamics. His official role is that of an Industrial Espionage Soldier.

Exhaust also possesses a particularly unusual ability called Quantize. This allows him to disperse the particles that make up his body and transform into a sort of living smoke, making him extremely difficult to capture. However, this ability consumes a great deal of energy, forcing Exhaust to regularly seek out new sources to absorb.

Another version of the character appeared in 2020 as part of the Generations Selects range, in the form of a new variant of Wheeljack. This incarnation retains the white, red and black colour scheme inspired by the Diaclone toy, whilst modernising his vehicle and markings.
