Character background and universe (Lore)

Sumika Shiun is one of the idols in Gakuen Idolmaster, a spin-off of the famous The Idolmaster franchise. She studies at Hatsuboshi Academy, a school specialising in training young talents aspiring to become idols. Her official profile describes her as Sumika Shiun, voiced in Japanese by Miya Minato.

Sumika stands out for her particularly sociable, energetic and easy-going personality. Despite her sometimes lackadaisical attitude towards lessons and training, she possesses genuine artistic talent and a natural ability to bond with those around her. Before joining the academy, she had notably excelled in ballet, where her talent had led to high expectations.

She also has a very close relationship with Lilja Katsuragi, whom she actively supports in her dream of becoming an idol. This contrast between her natural talent, her carefree nature and her ability to encourage others contributes greatly to Sumika’s endearing personality.

With her ‘gyaru’ style, her radiant personality and her background as a dancer, Sumika brings a very distinctive identity to the cast of Gakuen Idolmaster and perfectly embodies one of the series’ central themes: the journey of young artists with very different personalities and backgrounds as they make their way onto the stage.
