Origin and backstory of the character
Created in 1971 by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane for Marvel Comics, Dr Michael Morbius is a world-renowned biochemist suffering from a rare and fatal blood disorder. Whilst attempting a desperate experiment involving vampire bats and electric shocks, he accidentally transforms himself into a ‘living vampire’. Although he is not a magical undead creature, he develops all the characteristics of one: an insatiable thirst for human blood, superhuman strength, accelerated healing abilities and the power to glide. Constantly straddling the blurred line between tragic supervillain and tortured anti-hero, he regularly clashes with Spider-Man and Blade before becoming the protector of the monsters lurking beneath New York. This Funko Pop! figure from the exclusive “Strange Tales” series stylishly captures his iconic two-tone retro costume and his darkly realistic features, making it the perfect addition to any fan’s collection from the House of Ideas.
