Discover an Imperial Sandtrooper just as he appears on Tatooine in *Star Wars: A New Hope* with this articulated action figure from *The Vintage Collection*, produced by Hasbro. This version specifically depicts a Squad Leader, recognisable by his orange shoulder pad. It follows the range’s classic 3.75-inch / approximately 9.5 cm scale, with sculpting and detailing designed to replicate the worn appearance of the armour following a mission in the desert.
The white armour thus features a deliberately grubby and weathered finish, accompanied by the specific equipment worn by the Sandtroopers. The figure has several points of articulation allowing for a variety of poses and includes, in particular, a removable rucksack as well as the orange shoulder pad characteristic of this Squad Leader version.
The visible equipment includes the rucksack and three different weapons: an E-11 blaster, a DLT-19 heavy blaster rifle and a T-21 blaster rifle. The set is presented in the traditional cardboard blister pack inspired by Kenner toys from the 1970s and 1980s, bearing the reference number VC409 for collectors of The Vintage Collection.
Sandtroopers are Stormtroopers of the Galactic Empire specially equipped for deployment on desert worlds. Their standard armour is supplemented by various pieces of equipment adapted to arid environments, including cooling systems, a sand filter built into the helmet and a survival pack carrying extra food and water supplies.
In Star Wars: A New Hope, units of Sandtroopers are sent to Tatooine following the capture of the Tantive IV. Their mission is to recover the stolen Death Star plans, which have been concealed inside R2-D2. During their search, some soldiers even use dewbacks – reptiles native to Tatooine – as mounts to traverse the desert more efficiently.
The search eventually leads the Imperial troops to Mos Eisley, where Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO and R2-D2 are attempting to reach the spaceport. Obi-Wan then outwits a checkpoint manned by Sandtroopers using a Jedi mind trick, allowing the group to continue on their way.
