Origin and backstory of the character
Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix, the South Korean dystopian drama series Squid Game made television history by becoming the platform’s biggest global hit. The plot plunges 456 destitute participants into a secret competition based on traditional children’s games, where defeat means immediate death. Player 001, Oh Il-nam, is a vulnerable elderly man suffering from a brain tumour, who takes part in the game to live out his final moments rather than wait to die outside. Despite his apparent fragility, his childlike innocence and candour during horrific trials such as ‘One, Two, Three, Sun’ or the marbles game actually conceal the most shocking and Machiavellian secret in the entire series. This Funko Pop! figurine captures this key protagonist in his role as a player – a must-have for all fans of storylines with memorable twists.
