Character origin and lore
In the expanded lore of Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo begins his journey as the ‘Worst Hunter in Humanity’, an E-rank Hunter who endures injury after injury to pay for his sick mother’s medical treatment. His fate takes an irreversible turn during a tragic expedition into a hidden double dungeon, where he narrowly survives a deadly trial imposed by the “System”. Chosen as the sole participant in this mystical programme, he gains the unique ability to level up by completing daily quests and defeating monsters. As he rises through the ranks, he unlocks the Necromancer class before awakening as the Shadow Monarch, inheriting a divine power that allows him to extract the shadows of his defeated enemies to build an immortal army. This spectacular transformation turns this once-vulnerable young man into an absolute being, indispensable to the world’s survival in the face of the existential threats posed by the Monarchs and Sovereigns.
