AMG traces its origins back to 1967, when engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher founded a company specialising in the development of racing engines. The three letters in the name stand for Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach, Aufrecht’s hometown. From the very beginning, the company built its identity around the pursuit of performance and its commitment to motor racing.
One of the defining moments in its history came in 1971, when the spectacular AMG Mercedes 300 SEL 6.8 won its class at the 24 Hours of Spa and finished second overall. This result played a major part in establishing AMG’s international reputation. The company then gradually forged closer ties with Mercedes-Benz before becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of the brand.
Today, Mercedes-AMG is the division dedicated to Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance and sports cars. The Majorette set reflects the diversity of this range by bringing together five categories of vehicles: the compact A 35, the SL 63 roadster, the GLC 63 S SUV, the CLE 53 coupé and the GT 63 sports car. The set thus captures the Mercedes-AMG identity in a collection of officially licensed scale models, complemented by two miniatures exclusive to this edition.
