Meet Makinami Mari Illustrious, the enigmatic pilot introduced in the Rebuild of Evangelion saga, with this articulated PLAMATEA model kit produced by Good Smile Company. Once assembled, the model stands approximately 17.5 cm tall and depicts Mari in her pink plugsuit, complete with her red glasses and the various distinctive details of her pilot’s outfit.
The kit features a wide range of articulation, allowing you to recreate various poses for the character, from relaxed stances to combat positions. Several interchangeable hands are included, as well as two types of glasses: a complete pair with lenses and a second set consisting solely of the frames. A specific hand part also allows Mari to hold the Anti-Gigantes Rifle supplied with the MODEROID Evangelion Production Model Custom Type-08α, sold separately; the rifle itself is therefore not included in this kit.
A range of facial expressions allows her appearance to be customised. The contents include a pre-painted smiling face, accompanied by three other facial parts — a smile, a scream and an intense gaze — designed to accommodate the eye decals provided. Additional decals reproduce the markings on the plugsuit. Thanks to multi-coloured moulded parts, pre-painted elements and decals, the model can achieve a finish close to the official artwork straight out of the box, whilst still allowing for customisation by model-makers. An articulated base is also included.

Makinami Mari Illustrious is a character created specifically for the ‘Rebuild of Evangelion’ film tetralogy. She first appears in ‘Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance’, where the official website deliberately presents her as a new character whose details were as yet unknown. She is voiced in Japanese by Maaya Sakamoto.
Mari stands out from the other pilots due to her particularly enthusiastic and relaxed demeanour in battle. Upon her introduction, she pilots the Evangelion Provisional Unit-05 before also taking the controls of Unit-02. She subsequently continues her role as a pilot throughout the films *Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo* and *Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time*, where she is notably associated with the Evangelion Unit-08.
Her past and her true motivations remain deliberately more mysterious than those of many other characters in the saga. This lack of immediate explanation is an integral part of her presence in *Rebuild of Evangelion*, as Mari is introduced as a pilot from outside the original group centred around Shinji, Rei and Asuka.
This PLAMATEA kit recreates her pilot appearance with her pink plugsuit and distinctive glasses, whilst prioritising articulation and customisation. Its compatibility with the MODEROID Unit-08α’s Anti-Gigantes Rifle also allows you to recreate a configuration directly associated with her role as an Evangelion pilot.
