Character background and lore

Morpeko is an eighth-generation Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Native to the Galar region, it is of the Electric and Dark types and is classified as a Dual-Type Pokémon.

Morpeko continuously generates electricity via the pouches in its cheeks. This process consumes a great deal of energy, so the Pokémon feels hungry almost constantly. To remedy this, it regularly carries Berry seeds with it so it can have a nibble.

Its main distinguishing feature is its ‘Hunger Trigger’ ability, which allows it to alternate between two forms. When it is full, Morpeko enters its ‘Full Mode’, characterised by its yellow, brown and dark grey colours, as well as a relatively cheerful personality.

When it remains hungry for a prolonged period, its hormonal balance shifts and it enters Hungry Mode. Its fur then changes colour and its behaviour becomes much more aggressive. The energy stored in its cheeks also changes.

This alternation affects its signature ability, Free Wheel. In Sated Mode, this move is of the Electric type, whilst it becomes of the Dark type when Morpeko enters Hungry Mode.

POP! Games No. 1271 specifically depicts the Sated version of the Pokémon, whilst Funko also offers a separate POP! figure dedicated to its Hungry Mode.
