Origin and background of the character
The character Pigpen (known as Crado in the French version) comes from the famous American comic strip Peanuts, created by the author and cartoonist Charles M. Schulz in 1950. The story is set in an ordinary suburban neighbourhood and follows the everyday, sometimes philosophical, musings of a group of children and the famous beagle Snoopy. Pigpen is a little boy who is constantly surrounded by a cloud of magical, inescapable dust, capable of instantly soiling everything he touches, even if he has just stepped out of the bath. Far from being ashamed of his grime, he wears it with immense pride, regarding it as the accumulated dust of ages and past civilisations. This figurine draws direct inspiration from this timeless design to celebrate the spirit of childhood and self-acceptance that is so characteristic of the work. Its sleek, minimalist style highlights the character’s laid-back attitude and absolute originality, ready to add a touch of history and nostalgia to collectors’ shelves.
