Character background and lore
In the pirate epic One Piece, Yamato is one of the most iconic characters introduced during the Wano Country arc. Although she is the biological daughter of the ruthless Emperor Kaidou, supreme leader of the Hundred Beasts crew, she categorically rejects her father’s tyranny. Deeply moved by the heroic execution of the samurai Kozuki Oden and the discovery of his secret logbook, Yamato develops such absolute spiritual admiration that she chooses to adopt the hero’s very identity to pursue her dreams of freedom. Imprisoned for decades on the island of Onigashima with explosive shackles, her encounter with Monkey D. Luffy changes her destiny. Endowed with Herculean strength and the powers of the Divine Wolf Dog Fruit (Inu Inu no Mi: Model Okami), she wields a heavy metal mace (Kanabo) to break her chains and fight alongside the alliance to finally open Wano’s borders to the whole world.
