Created by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate recognisable by his straw hat. His goal is to sail across the Grand Line, reach the final island and become the Pirate King. Throughout his journey, he gathers a crew around him who come to be known as the Straw Hat Crew.
Setting out from East Blue, Luffy gradually recruits companions with very different skills and ambitions. The crew crosses the Grand Line and then the New World, heading for the final island, Laugh Tale, whilst facing rival pirates, the Marine forces and other powers that shape the balance of the world.
The Jolly Rogers – the skull-and-crossbones flags unique to each pirate crew – play a significant role in the visual identity of One Piece. The Straw Hat Crew thus has its own emblem, directly associated with Luffy and his famous hat. The pirate motifs featured on this pencil case reflect this maritime world and the visual identity developed around the franchise.
