Transform your bedroom into a peaceful corner of the forest with this Natsu duvet, inspired by the film My Neighbour Totoro. Manufactured by Marushin under an official Studio Ghibli licence and distributed in Europe by Benelic, it measures 218 × 183 cm – a generous size designed to cover a single bed whilst providing a soft and cosy layer.
The top side features a light green background covered with leaves, stems and small colourful berries. In the centre stands the large grey Totoro, accompanied by a blue Totoro at the bottom and a small white Totoro appearing higher up in the design. Several black spots also dot the design, reminiscent of the mysterious creatures encountered by Satsuki and Mei.
The words ‘MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO’ appear in large brown letters at the foot of the duvet. The characters are drawn with simple, expressive shapes, whilst the pastel shades of green, grey, blue and white create a gentle, nature-inspired atmosphere, suitable for a child’s bedroom or a home dedicated to the works of Studio Ghibli.
Made from polyester, this duvet is delivered pre-filled and ready to use. Its filling is held in place by several visible quilting stitches on the surface, which help to distribute the material evenly and maintain a consistent thickness throughout use. The manufacturer describes it as a comfortable duvet designed to keep you warm.
My Neighbour Totoro follows Satsuki and Mei Kusakabe, two young sisters who move with their father into an old country house. Their move brings them closer to the hospital where their mother is being treated, but their new home and the neighbouring forest soon have several extraordinary encounters in store for them.
Mei is the first to discover the Totoros whilst following small creatures through the undergrowth. She eventually reaches a huge tree where the Great Totoro rests – a peaceful forest spirit with a round appearance, combining the features of an animal with those of a mythical creature.
Satsuki, in turn, meets Totoro one rainy evening at a bus stop. She lends him an umbrella, and the creature is amused to discover the sound made by the raindrops on the fabric. Shortly afterwards, the Catbus arrives to whisk her away through the night.
The soot sprites visible on the duvet are small, living balls of soot that inhabit old houses and dark places. They usually flee when a home becomes lively and bright again.
The leaves and plant motifs on this duvet directly evoke the forest that protects the Totoros. The design brings together the three sizes of creatures, as well as the soot sprites, in a luminous setting, transforming the bedding into a scene inspired by the film’s benevolent and mysterious natural world.
