Origin and background of the work (Lore)
Conceived in 1945 by the Finnish novelist and illustrator Tove Jansson, Moominvalley is a haven of peace where friendly white trolls live alongside a host of quirky creatures. In this world, the changing of the seasons plays a fundamental narrative and poetic role. Every year, the arrival of Spring marks the end of a long period of hibernation for the Moomin family. It is a time of nature’s rebirth, of the snow melting and, above all, of the long-awaited return of the traveller Snufkin, whose harmonica tune officially heralds the arrival of fine weather and the start of new adventures guided by freedom, friendship and contemplation of the world.
