Origin and background of the character (Lore)
Created by the Finnish novelist and illustrator Tove Jansson, Little My is a unique character who leaves a lasting impression with her tiny stature and huge personality. Adopted by the Moomin family, she lives in their big blue house without ever conforming to social conventions. My is feisty, completely outspoken, mischievous and loves little disasters or a bit of a mess. Despite her prickly and grumpy nature, she has a good heart and proves to be a friend of unwavering loyalty. Portraying her during a ritual as calm, orderly and polite as ‘Afternoon Tea’ (afternoon tea) creates an amusing and ironic contrast that perfectly illustrates the humour of the work, in which Little Mu generally loves to disrupt the tranquillity of overly serious moments.
