MARVEL - Cypher - Figure Legend Series 15cm

Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Series welcomes Cypher, alias Douglas ‘Doug’ Ramsey, in an articulated figure measuring approximately 15 cm, inspired by his appearance in the New Mutants and X-Men comics. This version features the mutant’s classic costume, comprising a black and yellow jumpsuit, complemented by a red belt bearing the X-Men emblem. 

The figure depicts Doug Ramsey with his blond hair and an outfit that remains very faithful to his comic book look: a yellow torso framed by black, yellow gloves and boots, and a contrasting red belt. The figure has over 20 points of articulation, including a fully posable head, arms and legs, allowing for a variety of display poses.

Cypher comes with five accessories: four interchangeable hands to vary his gestures and a techno-organic sword with a yellow blade and black hilt. The figure can therefore be displayed in either a neutral pose or in the thick of the action, holding the sword with one or both hands. The set comes in a retro ‘The Uncanny X-Men’ blister pack, featuring an illustrated card that echoes the style of classic Marvel figures and includes a hand-drawn portrait of Cypher.

Character origin and lore

Douglas ‘Doug’ Ramsey, alias Cypher, is a mutant whose power enables him to understand and decipher all forms of language, whether spoken, written or even computer-based. Marvel dates his first appearance to *New Mutants* (1983) #13, whilst he adopts the identity of Cypher in *New Mutants* #21. This unusual ability makes him a specialist in communication, translation and decoding rather than a fighter relying primarily on physical strength.

Doug joins the New Mutants, the team of young mutants associated with Charles Xavier’s school. In particular, he develops a very close relationship with Warlock, a techno-organic alien belonging to the Technarch race. Marvel presents Warlock as his ‘self-friend’ and also highlights the particularly strong bonds that unite the two characters throughout their adventures.

Cypher’s role becomes even more significant during the Krakoa era, when his linguistic abilities prove essential: Marvel describes him, in particular, as the creator and guardian of the Krakoan language. The techno-organic sword included with this figure reflects the character’s more recent, combat-focused development, whilst his black and yellow costume echoes his classic appearance in the *New Mutants* and *X-Men* comics.
