From the Kingdom series, this Banpresto figurine depicts Ei Sei, King of Qin and one of the central characters in Yasuhisa Hara’s work. Part of the Grandista collection, it stands approximately 25 cm tall and offers a simple yet majestic portrayal of the sovereign.
Ei Sei is depicted standing, with his arms crossed over his chest, in a long red robe reaching down to his knees. The robe is accented by wide decorative trims in shades of olive green and gold, whilst a brown belt cinches his waist. Loose-fitting pale green trousers, high white socks and black shoes complete this traditionally inspired outfit.
His long black hair falls to his shoulders and frames a face with a serious and determined expression. Unlike Shin’s Grandista, which focuses on armour and military equipment, this figurine of Ei Sei features neither weapons nor armour: the sculpture relies primarily on his upright posture, his crossed arms and the drape of his robe to convey his status as a leader.
Ei Sei is the 31st King of Qin in Kingdom and the character destined to later become the first Emperor of China. The official anime profile describes him as an intelligent ruler, endowed with strong determination and pursuing a major objective: to bring an end to the era of wars between kingdoms by unifying China under the authority of Qin.
His journey is closely linked to that of Shin. The two young men meet through Hyou, Shin’s childhood friend, and then fight together during the rebellion aimed at reclaiming the throne of Qin. This ordeal forges a lasting bond of trust: Ei Sei pursues his political goal of unification, whilst Shin strives to become a Great General under Heaven capable of accompanying him onto the battlefields.
As the story unfolds, Ei Sei must also consolidate his authority within Qin itself. One of his main obstacles is Ryo Fui / Lü Buwei, who wields considerable influence over the government. The official profile states that, having wrested the bulk of political power from Lü Buwei, Ei Sei is now truly able to embark on his unification project, whilst paying particular attention to the generation of young commanders represented notably by Shin, Mouten and Ouhon.
